A true diamond in the rough!! This homeowner saw an opportunity to take this 150 year old farmhouse and bring it up to modern standards without loosing it’s sense of place in history.

Fluted columns flank the clear finished maple island, Custom maple countertop brackets are mimicked under the upper cabinets.

Maintaining the grand ceiling height meant double stacking the upper cabinets. This greatly adds storage space for those seldom used items you still want close by. The white thermofoil cabinets are separated by a narrow accent trim astragal. Using contrasting white uppers with maple lowers helped add a true custom touch.

Bold wall colours can be your friend!! Furniture feet on the lowers makes it look more like a hutch.

Personally, I think the over the range microwave-rangehood is one of the best inventions . It gives a large micro with a powerfull venting ability & multi stage lighting in one package that sits in otherwise unused space, and it’s not on the precious counter area. This picture shows one of my most elaborate crown & ceiling treatments. The 5 piece system can be retrofitted into homes without any ceiling framing considerations.A flat white paint makes it all seem like a plaster finish.

On the other side of this expansive kitchen is the eating area complete with fireplace.
